1157. In their initial, original state "Adam" and "Eve" thus constituted a form of life or state of being that was "instinctively" in harmony with the laws of life that were perfect for their step, without having any awake day-conscious idea that any other form of life was possible. They had thus no real knowledge about life itself. But a state of being in which one possesses no real knowledge of the most profound nature of life itself and its eternal laws, and which therefore fulfils this step's contact with these laws or existence only by virtue of an innate automatic function, "C-knowledge" or "instinct", can of course appear to us as nothing but the very first feeble physical dawning of life, to which we will later return.
