Why the simple-minded person cannot connect with a scientific interpretation of the Godhead or the highest answers
1161. The attitude of this simple-minded or primitive human being to Providence is thus something purely organic that can be changed only by evolution. It is the remains of a previous "cosmic consciousness", which now, in the first zone of the new spiral, is innate in the being's night-consciousness, without it, however, being able to penetrate the being's awake day-consciousness scientifically and in detail, this being the reason why it can reveal itself here only as an unshakeable "inkling" of a "supreme providence". It will be totally impervious to that which seems to give its primitive senses another picture of Providence, since it cannot possibly understand such a picture. If this being, in its unintellectual state, were to be able to grasp an awake day-conscious interpretation of this almighty godhead, this interpretation would thus least of all have to consist of a literal, scientific, detailed analysis of the many millions of years or great panoramas of time that creation in this way expresses. For the being, both the creation and the Godhead would then be extremely unnatural, indeed, downright "untrue" and thereby absolutely unacceptable. But by expressing the periods of time as "days", the interpretation immediately makes sense to the unintellectual being. It knows what a "day" is. It can take in such a period of time and thereby comes into contact with the real truth.
