1191. In "Adam" or the "human being" at the plant stage we find the above-mentioned state of light, albeit in a form that is in a very advanced state of degeneration. That it is degenerated is revealed through the fact that the being in question at this stage certainly possessed the cosmic state of light, but, as previously mentioned, only in the form of automatic functioning. It no longer possessed it in any form of day-consciousness. The highest wisdom or knowledge about life itself had in all essentials long since passed into its subconsciousness as talent kernels, abilities and aptitudes. And its memories from the dark state of a previous spiral had also in all essentials long since culminated in its experience in the form of gold copies, and had thereby also passed into its subconsciousness where they were transformed into a supreme attraction to the contrast to, or opposite of, the state of light that it had now experienced to a point of satiation or nausea. In the mentality of the living being at its first terrestrial mental stage, there was thus nothing left of this former, so brilliant life of light other than the fact that the being could not "sin". But it did not know why it could not "sin", and had no inkling of the existence of such a life. It felt within itself only a tremendous attraction towards the contrast to the life that, as an automatic function, pervaded it one hundred per cent. Its real, awake knowledge was at its minimum or in the mental state that world redemption in the scriptures expressed as "deep sleep".
