1192. It was during this "deep sleep" or minimal mental manifestation that "Eve" came into existence on the physical plane or emerged from "Adam's" organism. She thus originated from within "Adam" himself and not from anything else. She came into existence from his "rib", that is to say from his organism. She was, as "Adam" himself put it, "bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man". But if she was "bone of Adam's bones and flesh of Adam's flesh", it was in reality merely a division of "Adam" that had taken place. Instead of appearing as one being, he now appeared as two. But since life or Nature never transgresses its own laws or regulations, the division in this case could be nothing but "evolution". From the solitary "Adam", that is, the "solitary sexual species" of beings, a "new sexual species" of beings evolved. And thus it came about that from "Adam's" or the being's original organism at the plant stage, which was, as will be remembered, to an equal extent an instrument for both the "feminine" principle and the "masculine" principle, the "feminine" principle in some individuals stagnated, after which the "masculine" principle took possession of the entire organism, while the opposite occurred in other individuals. Here it was the "masculine" principle that stagnated, after which the "feminine" principle governed the entire organism. In this way a special being for each of the two principles or poles arose. The solitary kind of being had now become two kinds of being in the sphere of fertilisation: the "masculine" and the "feminine", which are in turn the same as "male beings" and "female beings" respectively. The "Adam" of the past no longer existed. He had of course lost a "rib", which means, something of himself. And if he had lost something of himself, he could not possibly be the same "Adam" as before. This lack of what he had lost had inevitably to leave its mark on him and thus make him different from the previous "Adam". What he had lost of himself was the faculty to make use of his "double-poled state". The "Adam" of the past or the kind of being of the past could now appear only as either a "male being" or as a "female being". And thereby the "Adam" of the past had lost his "faculty for self-fertilisation". The solitary sexual species had now become two sexes. "Adam" was no longer "alone". What was not good for the human being was now removed at the command of God. "Adam" or the living being had become dependent on a helpmate.
