The "masculine" being in biblical tradition was still described as "Adam", while the "feminine" being was regarded as the "new" being and was given the name "Eve" merely to indicate that the "masculine" being in a way temporarily retained the outer appearance of the "Adam" of the past. The "masculine" principle in the being forms of course the basis for the being's purely outer material superiority or independent face and relationship to the outer world. And thereby this "new Adam" had a great outer resemblance to the previous "Adam", which to the very highest degree had not merely an independent face to the outer world, but who was indeed the very incarnation of independence by virtue of his "faculty for self-fertilisation". It was in this respect that the "new Adam" had to differ from the previous one by being dependent on another being. So while the "male being" still retained an appearance of the previous "Adam's" state of light, the "female being" was in another situation. Since the "feminine" principle makes subordination or dependence on others a condition that fits exactly with the "masculine" being's superiority and independence, it thereby needs this being as a "protector" and thus differs very much from the "Adam" of the past; indeed, it was even, to a great extent, the material contrast to or opposite of this "Adam". It was therefore not so surprising that the "female being" was immediately given another name, while the "male being" in biblical tradition kept the living being's original designation, that is, the name of "Adam".
      We have thus seen how the divine biblical tradition is not merely a beautiful fairy tale from real life, but is also at the same time the truth told in such an ingenious way that it is bread and nourishment for the simple being at the same time as it is a divine greeting from the sages of the past to the cosmically conscious being of the present, who, through personal experience, already possesses the innermost solution to the mystery of life or the absolute truth.
