But an experience of life that is "blissful" or "paradisiacal" only because the being does not have senses through which it can perceive the opposite of the fulfilment of the laws of life is not a perfect experience. To the degree that these senses are lacking, the being is completely "asleep". Adam's experience of life was thus a minimal form of consciousness and thereby a state of bliss without details. But such a perception of life, such bliss devoid of detail cannot be on a level with bliss that is based on senses that gather for the individual all the details of the contrasts to the fulfilment of the laws of life. This gathering of details in the individual's consciousness or mentality constitutes "high-intellectuality". And it is evident that a state of bliss based on high-intellectuality is a more perfect and thereby greater experience of life than a state of bliss based only on "sleep" or a more or less dominating unconsciousness and automatic functioning. And the Godhead did not allow "Adam" to emerge on the physical plane to continue being an "unconscious" being, sustained solely by automatic functioning. The divine plan was that "Adam" was to become a "human being in God's image". And "God's image", which means, the very highest form of life experience, cannot therefore be "unconsciousness" or "sleep", but must be awake, day-conscious life. It must be knowledge of the mutual connection with all other life in the universe and existence. It must be an observance of the laws of life and the love emerging from this, not merely as an automatic function, but also on the basis of awake, day-conscious knowledge and a will that is guided by this. And this is what "Adam" (the plant being) totally lacked. The above-mentioned being certainly lived in "paradise", in the light, and complied with the laws of life, but not by virtue of its will, not by virtue of it desiring to comply with these laws, but solely because it simply did not know anything else and could not do anything else. Why it did this was the great "mystery" to which there was no solution within the form of life or "paradise" that the above-mentioned living being ("Adam") temporarily represented. And vast spaces of time, millions upon millions of years were to pass before this "Adam" was to meet the perfect solution to this through personal experience. And his "expulsion" from this "paradise" thus became a necessary link in the divine plan of creation for the "human being".
