1199. We thus understand here, how necessary this "expulsion", this transformation of the life of "Adam" or the living being was, according to "Livets Bog"; indeed, how it was nothing but the divine plan itself. It was not good that the being was a "sleeping" being. It was not good that the human being was "alone". It was not good that the living being did not feel a desire for any other being. It was better that the living being meant something "to another being", and was desired by "another being". But in order that it could become an object of another being's desire, and that this other being could become its object of desire, the principle of "self-fertilisation" and the self-fertilising being had to be put out of action. Fertilisation, which here means the enjoyment of life, had to be made dependent on another being. This other being had to become the centre and fixed point for its interest in life. But since this other being did not exist, it had to be "created", which means, be made to appear. And we have here arrived at a fundamental landmark in the living being's passage through the spiral cycle. We are at the parting of the ways between the domains of "self-fertilisation" and "cross-fertilisation", which in turn respectively means, the zones of "light" and "darkness"; we have here arrived at nothing less than the transformation of the being enabling it to promote the "killing principle"; we have arrived at the creation of the very first "beings of darkness". The "self-fertilising" being or the solitary "sexual species" becomes two "sexes": "male beings" and "female beings". The "Adam" of the past thus exists no longer. He had to "die the death" in order that "man" and "woman" could be born. And this "birth" was the beginning of the initiation of the living being into the "mystery of knowledge". It was the planting of the contrast to light or the "seed of the serpent" in the heart of the living being. It was the opening of the gateway to the "joys of darkness". The son of God could leave his father.
