Life's own cosmic structure of and injunctions regarding marriage. "Pseudo-marriage"
1200. And in the ears of the transformed son of God, which means, in the ears of "man" and "woman", resounded the divine formula for initiation: "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh". What guidance or previous knowledge lies in these divine words to the son of God now initiated as a "man"? To "leave one's father and one's mother" is of course to leave the very highest, the very most intimate connection one can have with a being; it is to leave or renounce the beings from whose flesh and blood one's own flesh and blood originated. What the "man" has to renounce in order to become a perfect "man" extends thus from the simplest and most trivial things right up to the things that are connected with him by the ties of kinship. In other words, absolutely everything. He has thus to leave absolutely everything, every interest and inclination; he has to renounce every desire. He has to cleave unto his wife. One hundred per cent of his desires and longings have to be for her. Any deviation from this is a violation of the divine injunction regarding marriage. It is a breach of the highest cosmic law of life itself regarding marital relations between "man" and "woman". Any "man" who deviates from this is not a "man" pure and unadulterated . His identity as a specifically "male being" is here abnormal or degenerated. Life's own cosmic injunction regarding marriage allows of no compromise. It does not say that he must or may have two wives or twenty wives; it does not say that he may have "lovers" and "concubines" besides his wedded wife; nor does it say that he may be divorced from his wife and marry another woman as he sees fit. The injunction in question, on the contrary, says expressly that "he shall cleave unto his wife". Indeed, it does not even give the right to have or access to having any ordinary interest, such as art, science and so on, that are not the wife's interest. On the contrary, does it not say precisely that "they shall be one flesh"? "One flesh" is of course the same as absolute unity, absolute harmony, absolute mutual consent and thereby means absolutely and voluntarily the same interest in every enterprise, in every manifestation of thought, in every decision and exercise of will. Any marriage in which this does not occur fails to conform with the true cosmic structure for marriage and is therefore not a perfect marriage. To the extent that it deviates from this, it will thus constitute merely a "pseudo-marriage", a ruin of something that once existed.
