1209. Marriage in its perfect or original pure state where it makes the beings "one flesh" thus exists among terrestrial human beings only during the "honeymoon period" of current marriages. And since the honeymoon gradually represents a shorter and shorter period of the beings' terrestrial lives, a correspondingly longer and longer section of the marriage, where it is no longer a "perfect marriage" and where it continues therefore in the most fortunate cases merely as "companionship" between the parties, becomes stimulated and supported by and based upon the parties' common feeling of obligation and responsibility towards any offspring they may have and on their recollection of the solemn, mutual promise they gave one another before the authorities, their families and those around them. And the further advanced this married couple are, the better their "companionship" will be, and the correspondingly more perfect will be their home, the influence and the upbringing that they will be able to give their children during this marriage. And all marriages that we find today in which the "honeymoon" is over but the couple continues living together all the same, are examples of such more or less good "companionship". Every marriage of today can therefore be divided into the "period of marriage" (the honeymoon) and the "period of companionship" (married life after the honeymoon is over).
