A "harem" is an expression of the "zone of unhappy marriages"
1215. But how can one man constitute the above-mentioned total satisfaction for an entire flock or series of women, when it is apparent that one woman is not enough for such a man? Is it not conceivable that this legal "polygamy" or "harem" is an atmosphere of young, beautiful women languishing from unsatisfied sexual hunger and the clouding of their minds and the undermining of their bodies associated with this? Is it conceivable that the beautiful clothes, the purple robes and silk, the large pieces of jewellery with precious stones, the gold, the silver, the cut diamonds, the rubies, the great palace, the golden halls, the sumptuous carpets and soft silk cushions can replace the most profound needs of the human spirit or the innermost longings of the soul? Of what use are all the riches in the world when they are dependent upon one not being allowed to eat? Can the golden halls, the expensive jewellery and the soft pillows replace the missing marital partner? Can they justify the absence of the "husband" because he at the moment has to have intercourse with one of the many other "wives" that he has enslaved in his golden cage? What is it we are witnessing here? Is it not the "zone of unhappy marriages"?
