1229. The above-mentioned spiritually "dead" being or "living corpse" is the greatly degenerated terrestrial human being. The principle of marriage, the one-poled sexual state, the heavenly light that previously gave the being life, inspiration, energy and zest for life is now experienced by this being in only a very much reduced, weak form, indeed, at the very most as merely a brief repetition of a state that it once experienced perfectly in far distant lives, a state that was previously lifelong within the bounds of the terrestrial lives, but now constitutes merely the short, brief period of marriage called the "honeymoon" within each of these lives; indeed, for many beings this period does not actually exist any longer since the repetition is so short or brief that it is no longer experienced in the awake day-consciousness. It passes over the mentality of the individual without leaving a trace. That such a terrestrial human being is therefore no longer an ardent lover of the opposite sex is obvious. Indeed, it can sometimes be even a "hater" of this sex. But if it still feels sufficiently attracted to this sex that it results in it being bound in marriage, it is certain that such a marriage will be nothing but a more or less imperfect repetition of real, divine marriage. Its satiation with the enjoyment of a sexual partner sets in very quickly. And its "honeymoon" with this partner will be correspondingly short-lived. Indeed, in the end the being goes, so to speak, from one partner to another without having had any real mental connection with any of them, despite having had sexual intercourse with them. Its sexual satisfaction was merely an empty or hollow purely bodily satisfaction that provided no nourishment whatsoever for its soul. It just physically satisfied the body, like a meal satisfies the stomach. What can one say about sexual satisfaction that has become an "article of commerce"? What can one say about a sexual partner who is merely a question of "money"? Where is the heavenly light in a sexual partner for whom the act is but a springboard or means of attaining the greatest possible financial gain for the least possible output, for whom the act has become simply a "way of earning a living"? What has become of the "honeymoon" in a sexual sphere where that which is the highest in life is offered for sale in market places, alleys and backyards? Can a being's most intimate or true act of becoming "one flesh" with another be turned into a question of "buying and selling"? Can the heavenly rays – the soul's most profound and intimate longings for love – be satisfied by an "article for sale"? No, absolutely not. What then is taking place here? What is taking place here is that the "highest fire" has left the "one-poled" being. Untiringly the being seeks and seeks for the heavenly light everywhere. It marries time and time again, and believes every time that it has now found this light, that is, "happiness". It rushes through unfaithfulness and excesses, disregarding the risk for terrible, undermining illnesses. It begs, implores and beseeches the partners that it believes can give it the divine light, indeed, it can even sometimes allow itself to be lured into using brute force, violence and rape, but no matter where it seeks and what it does the fire of heaven has gone. It is true it still meets great beauty and to a certain degree charm in beings of the opposite sex, but as a rule this is merely an outer camouflage disguising what is, from a marital point of view, a flickering, more or less burnt-out light. The rays of happiness in the form of marital fire have gone. "Adam" and "Eve" in the form of modern terrestrial human beings are more or less itinerant "cosmic corpses" that are hastening towards their graves. But their souls are on their way towards the "tree of life". The "lost paradise" is now glistening again in the distance. The cycle of darkness, the initiation into the mystery of knowledge, has been completed. Over the ruins and graves of "Adam" and "Eve" the son of God now hastens once again back to heaven. The bodies of the opposite sex that previously were golden temples for "Adam" and "Eve's" highest happiness or experience of life are now, at the command of the divine will, about to become transformed into the scene of the culmination of the experience of life: the meeting of the returning son of God with his eternal Father, with eternal life and with eternal love.
