1230. It is true, however, that the son of God is as yet not conscious of his situation. From a cosmic point of view he is, as will be remembered, a sleeping being, even though he is now – by virtue of his initiation into the mystery of darkness and his material ability – a being that is very awake from a physical point of view. From a cosmic point of view he is, as mentioned above, in a "deep sleep", a "sleep" that is analogous with the "deep sleep" he was once previously in, namely when he was about to go through the "creation of Eve" or his organic adaptation to existence in darkness. Now, however, it is not darkness that his organic structure has to adapt to, but to light. This "transformation" occurs just as imperceptibly as the very "creation of Eve", which is actually not so remarkable since this is in principle the same process, only in reverse. This process is of course nothing more or less than the "transformation of the poles". While the "creation of Eve" was rooted in the being's transformation into a "one-poled being" or "animal", the total degeneration of marriage is seen here to be rooted in the transformation of the being into a "double-poled being" or "human being in God's image". While the former organic structure promotes the "eating of the tree of knowledge" and the "initiation into the mystery of knowledge", the other organic structure, as we will now see, promotes the "eating of the tree of life", which is the same as the "initiation into the mystery of life".
