"Adam" and "Eve" (the terrestrial man and woman) are no longer what they once were. "Death" has overtaken those who ate of the "tree of knowledge"
1231. "Adam" and "Eve" (the terrestrial human being) are thus no longer what they once were. It is true that they have an outer, bodily structure that still allows them to appear as an apparently "specifically male being" and a "specifically female being" respectively; but with regard to their mentality and inner view of one another they are quite changed. "Adam" has no longer the perfect "male being's" view of "female beings", and "Eve" has no longer the "specifically female being's" view of "male beings". They are therefore no longer the inevitable, vital object of sympathy or love for one another that they once were. They no longer constitute an all-outshining necessity for one another, which is shown by the great irresponsibility or carelessness with which they treat one another both within marriage and outside it, this being the reason why their marriage is in fact no longer a perfect one. It is, on the contrary, merely an outer or more or less inferior camouflage of this, a camouflage that very often can be maintained solely on the strength of a "marriage certificate", by established legislation, out of fear of deviating from the flock's official marital traditions or authorised customs and practises, and out of fear of scandal. It is obvious that such a marriage cannot possibly unite the partners and make them "one flesh", but rather turns them into opposing fronts, a kind of battleground. And it is this increasing marital ineptitude that manifests itself in the marital states mentioned above: harem marriages, the many divorces and remarriages of divorcees in the West, prostitution and pimping. And the beings of the opposite sex, which were previously something sacred, ultimately mean almost nothing. Indeed, in the more primitive and robust beings on this step they arouse even antipathy or loathing, this being the phenomenon that has given rise to, among other things, the emergence of the concept of "woman hater". Antipathy towards the opposite sex, of course, also comes to the fore in the primitive or robust woman on this step, even though it may not be so strongly in evidence as it is in the man. And here we are dealing with a "man" who is not a perfect "male being", and a "woman" who is not a perfect "female being". A "man" who feels no attraction towards a "woman", and who, in the worst case, even feels downright loathing or permanent antipathy towards her, cannot possibly be a real "male being". It is true that as regards his outer, bodily, organic appearance, he is a "man". But a "man" that has no need of the opposite sex, no organic need for a "woman", reveals of course that he does not possess a "masculine" mentality. His "masculine" nature is devoid of soul and spirit. The only "masculine" thing about this being is thus his physical body. And since this body's "masculine" aspect is devoid of "soul" and "spirit", and is totally "dead" towards "women", this aspect of this body is of course nothing but a "corpse". "Death" has overtaken the perfect "male being". We stand before "Adam's corpse". It is obvious that a "woman" who is similarly uninterested in male beings and is devoid of the ability to react to them, despite the fact that her outer physical organism is a woman's body, also represents only a "female" being that is "dead". Here we have before us "Eve's corpse". The will of God has thus been done. "The seed of the woman has bruised the head of the serpent". "Death" has overtaken those who ate of the "tree of knowledge".
