Livets Bog, vol. 4
Being "in love" with the opposite sex is the being's ultimate worship of itself and gives rise to the flames of hatred or the "breath of life" in the manifestations of darkness, and results in the son of God believing that he is one with "death" instead of "life"
1233. It is true that this worship is to be found camouflaged as "being in love" with the opposite sex. But why are beings "in love" with the opposite sex? Is it not because contact with or possession of this sex is the very highest pleasure for the being itself? Is it not precisely this that is shown to be a fact when this possession fails, when love is not reciprocated by a being of the desired sex, and when, for instance, another being becomes a rival for the being of the opposite sex that one wants to possess? Does the "highest fire" not here burst into a new flame, namely, the flame of "jealousy" or "hatred"? And does not this hatred become the "breath of life" or the force sustaining and giving life to all the special traditions of the animal kingdom? Does the "flame of hatred" not become the numerous varieties of imperfection, pain and suffering that together constitute the great fire we call "hell", the world conflagration that we call the "Day of Judgment" or the original heavenly light's opposite, which we call "darkness", and on account of which the being can no longer see its heavenly Father and has thereby lost sight of itself as "a son of God", indeed, has even lost its awareness of its own immortal I and believes itself to be identical with created things? Since created things are not eternal, because they are subject to a beginning and an end, which in turn means that they are perishable or "mortal", the being believes itself thus to be at one with death instead of at one with eternity or eternal life, which it actually is. In truth, no greater contrast to or opposite of reality or absolute truth can occur.
