How could "darkness" or the contrast to "light" arise if the "highest fire" had not divided itself into two flames
1234. But how could the absolute truth, the true identity of life and the son of God be revealed or be accessible to sensory perception without this contrast or opposite to the above-mentioned identity? How could wisdom come into being or exist without this opposite? Is not all wisdom precisely an analysis of darkness and its effects? And is it not precisely these effects that constitute the dark background upon which the details of light, the difference between "good" and "evil" can be distinguished? But how could this darkness, this contrast to light, arise, if the "highest fire" had not divided itself into "two flames"? How could Providence or the eternal Godhead in any other way make the son of God or the original being of light – which means, the superterrestrial or heavenly being that in its awake day-consciousness no longer could recollect the darkness and the existence of its details and therefore appeared as a being in "a deep sleep" – understand darkness or the contrast to light? How else could Providence have been able to "breathe into" this "sleeping" or almost unconscious being the "breath of life" that could make it day-conscious in the traditions of darkness and thereby give it the contrast with which it gradually could become awake day-conscious in the light and its details? In a world where one loved one's neighbour as oneself there could of course be nothing to be "jealous" of and thereby nothing either that could give rise to hatred, anger, persecution or professional enmity and the maintaining of one's own life by the death of other beings. Persecution and destruction would thus be totally impossible.
