The existence of the living beings as "substances of hatred" and "substances of love" is vital to the macrobeing and thereby to the universe as a whole, that is, the Godhead's mentality and well-being, in the same way as the reactions of our own microbeings are vital to our own manifestation and our normal well-being

1269. Since the living beings constitute degrees of these "substances of hatred" or "substances of love" they become useful, indeed, simply indispensable to the divine plan of creation itself. Just as "sugar", "salt", "fire", "water" and "substances" that the living beings consume as food constitute effects of energy or sources of strength with which these beings can create or manifest, meet their vital needs and attain the joy in existing that is normal and necessary for them at any moment, so are the various degrees of these "substances of hatred" and "substances of love", which, according to the analyses presented here, the living beings in the mesocosmos and the microcosmos constitute, just as necessary for the macrobeing within which they find themselves and thereby for the universe as a whole, that is, the organism, mentality and well-being of the Godhead. How, indeed, could the Godhead produce or create if these various kinds of energy with which the divine I could juggle did not exist? All living beings in the form of "kinds of substance" or "kinds of energy" are thus the "sources of strength" without which no creation, no manifestation and thereby no life or any form of consciousness would be possible.
