1274. The "energy of intelligence" is just as indispensable as the above-mentioned three energies. Is it not this that underlies all "logic" in the administration of the universe? And is it not in turn "logic" that determines the perfection of every kind of creation? Is it not on the basis of "logic" in the process of creation that we have eyes to see with, ears to hear with, hands and fingers to grip with and feet to walk on? Is it not likewise on the basis of "logic" that birds have wings and can fly, that fish have fins and gills and are thus equipped to live in the water? How would it be if this "logic" were missing? Would not all conscious mental life be a total impossibility? Nothing could be calculated, nothing could be planned or adapted, no requirements could in any way be fulfilled, because nothing at all would exist that made anything a requirement. But if nothing existed that made anything a requirement, no emergence of conscious mental life would of course be possible. Conscious mental life can exist solely by virtue of "acting contrary to" and "fulfilling" requirements. "Logic" is of course precisely the same as fulfilling the requirements for desired, normal purposes, which means, the requirements for normal creation. But if no requirements of any kind exist, there would of course be none to "fulfil" or "act contrary to". Both "abnormal" and "normal" creation or manifestation would thus be total impossibilities. And here in this case too a "nothing" would have to reign eternally in a domain where life today flourishes so resplendently.
