1276. The next energy is the "energy of memory", which also belongs to the "ray-formed" state of matter. Just as one cannot possibly produce a perfect "spiritual creation" without the "energy of intuition", so too would it be quite impossible to create without the "energy of memory". To experience without "memory" would in principle be the same as eating food without possessing a stomach or digestive organs. Without "memory", life would be just as impossible as an animal, physical existence would be without these organs. That a being in the middle of its daily existence can suddenly lose its "memory" yet continue to live, does not of course mean that it in the absolute sense has lost its "memory", but merely that a temporary abnormality or defect has arisen in the organ that facilitates the connection between the individual's memories and its awake day-consciousness, that is, a temporary illness or defect in the brain. Without the "energy of memory" the "inner world", which the living beings' memories constitute, and which we in Livets Bog have come to know as the "kingdom of bliss", could not exist. And without this "inner world" neither the absence of awake day-conscious life and experience in the "outer world" nor the ensuing "stillness" or unconsciousness in "substance" or matter, which results in it appearing to us as "inorganic" or as "mineral matter", could ever have occurred. The emergence of this matter is thus due exclusively to the circumstance that the sphere of memories or the "kingdom of bliss" has become the entire, awake day-conscious sphere of interest of the I's or the living beings, in the same way as the emergence of matter as "organic" is due to the circumstance that the details of the outer, material, physical world have become the entire, awake day-conscious sphere of interest of the I's or living beings concerned.
