1287. Since the opposite sex was thus the being's present absolute source of light, every means of ridding itself of its rivals and winning the favour of the opposite sex had to be highly desirable. And so all material assets, from gold and precious stones to the most essential foods and items of clothing were woven into its possessive urge and inevitably incorporated as objects of envy and hatred. It was thus not only the desire to own the opposite sex that developed, but also the desire to possess purely material phenomena. Indeed, this desire for earthly goods and gold developed so much that it sometimes completely surpassed the being's desire for the opposite sex. The being became "avaricious", a "miser" that wished only to "hoard" without having any ability to feel satiated, even though its possessions amounted to several thousand times more than the normal maintenance of its life demanded. The same insatiable desire could also sometimes manifest itself with regard to possession of the opposite sex. It is this insatiable desire that gives rise to "polygamy" (a man's marriage with several women) and "polyandry" (a woman's marriage with several men). That these phenomena do not weaken the anguish of jealousy or envy is of course obvious. The more phenomena that gradually are included as objects for rivalry and ownership, the greater must the domain of hatred and persecution naturally become. And since the being's polar constellation or organic structure thus determines this deadly form of life as the daily life of the living being or "Adam" and "Eve" throughout the animal kingdom and right up to the highly developed terrestrial human stage, "Adam" and "Eve's" accumulation of experience and talents must thus to a colossal extent be to the advantage of jealousy or hatred and thereby the killing principle. And "Adam" and "Eve" became geniuses at infringing all the principal laws of life. Their talents or technical and chemical know-how became the culmination of mutilating, murdering, killing, shattering and destroying.
