1336. But if a "communist society" must thus return to former "capitalist" conditions, it reveals that the measures adopted were too drastic. One has gone faster than evolution. The individuals concerned had not completely grown out of "capitalism". And neither individuals nor society will be able to run away from what they have not yet grown out of, just as one cannot skip any steps in evolution either by using "dictatorship". Everything must evolve. "Evolution" is the only road to "communism", for "communism" is not a "political system" that has been invented or concocted; it is a "step in evolution" on which "neighbourly love", which here means a "sense of community", "collectivity" or a recognition of interdependency is sacred, is a commandment and a vital condition of life. "Communism" cannot constitute the antipathy towards "capitalists" the being feels when it is oppressed by them and therefore swears by "communism", until the moment when it itself, through one circumstance or another, comes into money and becomes a "capitalist", and then swears by the continued existence of "capitalists". Such a mental attitude can of course be but "treachery" to "communism", and stamps its source as a "traitor" to this mental state. It is clearly evident that a "communist" party or society that consists of far too many beings of this type cannot of course be taken seriously as regards its "communism". It is of course obvious that the "communism" represented by such a society absolutely cannot be pure "communism" but, during a certain period in evolution, is still more or less a pursuit of "capital" or wealth.
