1341. During the writing of this work, we have seen a world ideology or cosmic world impulse of the past making a last great effort to conquer the world. We have witnessed how this impulse of energy, previously so life-giving and essential to terrestrial mankind's mental guidance, was now merely a storm surge, a flood of death and destruction killing and destroying all terrestrial human cultural evolution, happiness and welfare. Terrestrial mankind's mental apprehension and its guidance by the light world impulses had advanced so far that the world impulse that previously gave it life-giving, mental nourishment, evolution and protection, is today merely a heathen, animal bloodying of all terrestrial human morality, culture and view of life. In truth, from a mental point of view is not this mankind already living on a "new Earth", gazing up at a "new heaven"? Is it not evident here that the world impulse whose death agony, in the form of the great world drama we have seen taking place recently in Europe and which even now, as these lines are being written, is still raging over Asia and the Pacific Ocean, can no longer succeed with or conquer terrestrial mankind as a whole? This world impulse is centred on a dictatorial "leader principle", which was a blessing for a mankind of the past that was quite devoid of a developed faculty to think and of physical intellectuality. It was these dictatorial forces that placed a huge "royal halo" around the great "dictators" and "autocrats" of the past who were initiated into and blessed with a degree of intellectuality, physical insight and a view of life as yet completely lacking in terrestrial mankind as a whole. These "dictators" became therefore divine "leaders" or benefactors of the mankind of that time. They became the "Godhead's deputies" on Earth. But today such beings cannot attain any lasting popularity. Indeed, have we not seen that all the most primitive forces of this past world impulse, its camouflaging of unreality or untruth as "truth" and "culture" concurrently with violent "hands-up-or-your-life" methods, its blind shooting down or torture were used against all the beings that would not subordinate themselves to the prophets, leaders or dictators of this world impulse, and other representatives of this priesthood of death. And yet no golden crown decorated with precious stones, no physical rank and no terrestrial or heavenly happiness awaited the dictators or the high priests and henchmen of this world impulse; indeed, not even a "Valhalla" was open to them any longer. Only the "war criminal's gallows" and the "deprivation of all worthiness of human confidence" awaited those who, in despair, degradation, horror and terror of the justice of the light world impulse, had not already committed suicide. In truth, we have here an out-grown religious world impulse, an out-grown leader principle, an antiquated ideology, a spiritual path that could no longer be trodden by a terrestrial mankind, the majority of whose individuals had already long since trodden its path and now, on the strength of a new cosmic world impulse, are making great haste towards the distant light horizons ahead. This majority could not be forced to look back and become a "pillar of stone", like "Lot's wife" when fleeing from the "destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah". It was no longer to be led towards "death". The will of God determined that it was to be led towards "life". And for this reason the animal power, glory and lustre of the past in the terrestrial human terrains had to be destroyed, to become the dark clouds of smoke from the smouldering heaps of ruins, clouds that are dispersing today and are lost in the pure ether of the blue sky. And thereby a world ideology, an act of will in the divine government of the world is brought to an end. And a new divine act of will has become the power and the glory in the government of the terrestrial human path through life.
