On distinguishing between "what is finished" and "what is unfinished" in life. Why terrestrial human beings have been prepared to believe in prophets, wise men and world redeemers
1362. Since what is finished in life and existence always proves to be the culmination of the creation of pleasure for its surroundings, without it thereby creating unpleasant experiences for any other being whatsoever, it will always radiate as "harmony". What is unfinished, on the other hand, will always, to the extent that it is unfinished, cause other beings inconvenience and unpleasantness, even though it may, in certain cases give them or their surroundings a temporary feeling of pleasure. It will therefore always radiate as "disharmony". So, to the extent that the terrestrial human being uses what is unfinished as an ideal or guideline for its exercise of thought and will, and thereby for its creation and appearance, it must also constitute disharmony for its surroundings. Primitivity, pain and suffering must therefore follow in the wake of its movement through life and existence. Since the ability to distinguish between what is finished and what is unfinished constitutes such a decisive factor in the guidance of the being towards its intended destiny, namely, to genius, to being a joy and blessing for everyone and everything around it and to its ensuing fate being harmony, peace and joy in its own innermost self, it is not so surprising that terrestrial mankind has been prepared to believe in the great prophets, wise men and world redeemers. Because of their greater age in the present evolutionary spiral, these beings, to a greater extent than the general public, have been able to distinguish between what is finished and what is unfinished in the terrestrial human beings' life and surroundings. They were therefore able to teach these beings what was finished and what was unfinished, and thereby how they ought to think and act in order to be in harmony with what is finished in life and existence, and attain harmony, peace or the "kingdom of heaven".
