1364. The mentality of Christ thus constitutes the culmination of neighbourly love. And the culmination of neighbourly love is in turn living exclusively to serve and not to be served; it is exclusively to give rather than to receive; it is to allow oneself to die rather than allow others to be subjected to this phenomenon as yet so feared by people in general; it is nothing other than loving one's neighbour as oneself. We have thus here before us the highest ideals of the new world epoch or the precepts according to which the divine process of creation goes on around us in Nature. It is thus not an ideal for terrestrial human beings because it was revealed by Christ, but solely because it proves to be the intention and purpose of life itself for human beings. The mentality of Christ is thus the goal. It is the finished result as regards perfect thinking, perfect exercise of the will and perfect conduct. The emergence of this mental state shows us the mental harmony and peace and the removal of the fear of death, which is today the object of the innermost longing and most secret desire of the modern spiritual researcher or the intellectual terrestrial human being.
