All beings must go through the same amount of suffering in order to become the same perfect human being
1368. The structure of war or unrest is thus not limited to the single mental volcanic eruption that we ordinarily call "war", where two nations or more clash with one another. It is a sphere of existence, an entire world or zone in which all living beings must be transformed from "animals" into "human beings". How much this zone of war or sphere flowing with blood has cost terrestrial human beings in organisms, suffering and tears is beyond all ordinary intellectual perception. When the old prophecies about the "day of judgment" say that "the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up, and the third part of the sea became blood, and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died, and the third part of the ships were destroyed, and a third part of men were slain", it is of course not a numerical inventory of the accidents and sufferings, the murders and killings that really have taken place and those that as yet remain to be manifested by this sphere of darkness in the terrestrial zone. If it were merely a third of terrestrial mankind and a third of matter – the "green grass, the ships" and so on – that were to be physically destroyed, what about the other two thirds of terrestrial mankind and matter? How could the evolution of matter and of terrestrial mankind then take place? The material evolution of the Earth has of course come about through a continuous destruction of obsolete forms of matter in favour of their transformation into new forms. How do people think the plant kingdom of the world today would have looked if only a "third" of it had been subject to evolution's destruction of old forms in favour of the creation of new and more perfect forms? And if only a "third" of terrestrial human beings was to go through the reactions of evolution or the sufferings of the dark sphere, what about the other two thirds of terrestrial human beings? Were they to go on being held down in primitivity and ignorance? Without experiencing the zone of war or the killing principle in all its phases, it would of course be totally impossible for the terrestrial human being to evolve. But if all human beings in this zone are beings that are undergoing a transformation from "animal" to "human being", they have of course the same goal. But if they are to become the same, they must all of course also fulfil the conditions for attaining this goal. But as experiencing the zone of darkness in all its phases is a prerequisite for becoming a "perfect human being", this thus means that all terrestrial human beings must go through the same amount of suffering in order to become the same "perfect human being". If there were any possibility that merely some single individuals or a third of the people had to go through the sufferings, while the other two thirds did not have to go through them and could still become "perfect human beings", there would have to be a mistake in evolution or the divine world plan. It would not be "divine", but would be a revelation of flagrant, one-hundred-per-cent "injustice". But no such mistake occurs in the divine world plan. How could such a mistake occur? The universe or the divine world plan is not a combination of mistakes and imperfections, but a culmination of the logic that determines that "everything is very good".
