Livets Bog, vol. 4
What it is that gives rise to the individual believing he is one with matter or a "created thing" that must disintegrate again
1444. But thanks to an eternally continuous rhythmic movement maintained by the "mother energy", the seventh basic energy of existence, the "zone of death" dominates or prevails in one half of the spiral cycle, while in the same half the domain of the "zone of life" shrinks to constitute but a small, weak or elementary area that is just large enough to ensure that no "dead point" could arise, bringing the spiral cycle to a standstill. If the display of energy of the "zone of life" could become absolute stillness, what could get it going again? The "zone of life" has thus, as previously mentioned, a small, elementary area within the "zone of death" in the spiral cycle where it is so inconspicuous that it cannot even penetrate the individual's awake day-consciousness. And it is this fact that makes the individual believe that he is one with matter, that he is created, that he has come into existence and shall again disintegrate into the absolute "void". The energy of the "zone of life" can only just give him the feeling of being "alive" in the brief span of a local, terrestrial life that it can remember. Everything that lies outside his awake day-conscious memory becomes thus more or less dubious in character since it can be experienced only through the accounts of others. Thus the hour, the day and the year of his birth and the details of the first years of his present terrestrial life are merely "second-hand knowledge", not to speak of his awareness of his previous terrestrial lives, which in the worst case he is completely unable to grasp or understand, indeed, which he sometimes even denies and repudiates. He acknowledges, so to speak, only his life in the now. Anything lying outside the now or outside his memory indicates the domain of the "kingdom of death" and the "corpse" of the "kingdom of life" within his consciousness.
