Arriving at an understanding of the period of marriage that lies outside the "honeymoon" is the coming thing as regards the continued existence of marriage
1463. And thus millions of people in thousands of cinemas and theatres the world over watch this mirage every day, this exaggerated glorification of marriage created by erotically ecstatic writers. But is there anything wrong with that? Does showing people how divine such a marriage can be for its two partners not stimulate the structure of marriage? Well, it would be divine in itself if what people were shown was expressive of an intellectual insight into life itself, if it were the actual truth about marriage on the present terrestrial human being's step. But this is not the case. On the contrary, it extols something that once existed in a bygone time on a plane less intellectual than that on which the terrestrial human being finds itself today. The marriage of times past does not therefore exist today in the form of lifelong, fundamental, unfailing sexual happiness, but as merely the relatively short-lived sexual ecstasy that we know under the concept of the "honeymoon". The general rule applicable to terrestrial marriages of today is therefore that they have two sections: the "honeymoon period" and the subsequent "ordinary everyday period". While the "honeymoon period", which at best lasts but a few years, constitutes the part of the marriage during which their life together still constitutes sexual ecstasy for both parties, the "other period", which at best means the rest of their lifetime, is merely a union bound by traditional and material ties. But a union of two beings based exclusively on a judicial marriage pact, and therefore created by neither desire nor love, does not perfectly comply with the principles or laws of marriage. But since it is this kind of union that is the general rule in modern marriages, and not the "honeymoon" kind, it is most unfortunate that this general marital state, which is the true face of marriage of today, is hidden under an exaggerated exaltation of the "honeymoon". Because of this, the only impression that young people who are sexually mature or keen to marry can receive is that marriage of today usually consists entirely of a "honeymoon". It can be nothing but foolish and consequently very unfortunate that the true structure of marriage and the psyche of the human being of today are not subjected to scientific investigation so as to create an intellectual foundation that can stabilise new generations in quite another way in relation to the state or period of married life that inevitably follows the "honeymoon". Gaining insight into the fact that this state is an absolutely inevitable and natural state that everyone must go through – a state that can, after all, also be truly divine, beautiful and harmonious if one complies with the laws particular to this state – would stabilise the beings so that they would come to regard this as a matter of course. Now, on the contrary, it is so that in thousands of theatres and cinemas people are shown an exaggerated glorification of the "honeymoon" of a marriage, which induces millions of beings to believe that this state is the great, all-important goal for the terrestrial human being of today, while the true reality is that the terrestrial human being's sexual structure is absolutely no longer such that the being can possibly avoid this division of married life into the "honeymoon period" and the subsequent "non-honeymoon period" of the marriage, when the sexual ecstasy has more or less disappeared. Which modern intellectual terrestrial human being of today can guarantee to go on being "in love" with another being for life? The impossibility of this is further laid down as fact since "being in love" is not an act of will, but an automatic, organic process promoted by glandular secretions and a hunger for spiritual vitamins. And if the "honeymoon" is based absolutely exclusively on "being in love", it is evident that a marriage based exclusively on "being in love" is from the outset heading for disaster. If the beings were shown this truth at the outset in as many cinemas and theatres, thus increasing their intellectual stability in relation to the state that arises when the "honeymoon" of the marriage or state of being "in love" is over, there would be no need for all the many humiliating and unsavoury divorce proceedings and marital difficulties that today torture terrestrial mankind. Since the state that comes after the "honeymoon" becomes increasingly the terrestrial human being's general or fundamental state, it is evident that insight into or understanding of the sexual principle itself or the main cosmic structure of sexuality becomes increasingly called for. Without this insight it will eventually become impossible for the terrestrial human being to be perfectly or completely happy. When a sexually enraptured author or poet extols marriage as the absolute, highest, lasting ideal for all human beings, both now and in future stages of evolution, he is not expressing an absolute reality or truth. What he is expressing, on the contrary, is rather a true or infallible symptom of his own temporary sexual intoxication and subsequent loss of contact with a normal, logical way of thinking, quite apart from his general ignorance of the complete structure, sphere and mission of the sexual principle in the divine world plan.
