1490. The road to true acknowledgement of the Godhead, and thereby to real, absolutely true "peace", does not go through any specific religious or political society, because they are all more or less in the process of stiffening in their own crystallised dictatorship, and were, indeed, doing so from their very beginning or inception. These associations should actually have been the "salt of the Earth", and have to a certain extent been so, but now their mission is disintegrating. They have accumulated deposits outside the mother society itself or the remaining part of terrestrial mankind. The "salt" cannot therefore carry out its mission. If salt is to keep a product fresh, it must be mixed with the product and not separated into piles outside the product. The societies that were to improve morality have become "societies" outside terrestrial human society itself and cannot therefore influence it. They have to be "societies within society" and not, as is the case, societies beside society. If salt is to be of any use in food, it must be mixed with the food and not be placed in a pile beside it. Despite their former divinity, the religious sects, as opposed to the intellectual world, have become "piles of salt" beside society, and, like "Lot's wife", will petrify as useless "pillars of salt". Today they are each to a great extent merely a "backwards look". And the way out of "Sodom" and "Gomorrah" is not to "look back" (to worship out-dated traditions), but to look forwards and upwards. The road to life is not to stop at something that is out-dated and belongs to the past, but to observe the "something" that is today the absolute "present" and "future". In the now it is not the "past" but the "future" that is God's will, and thereby the culmination of "universal love" and "world peace".
