1493. What other being can be more contrary to the Godhead? To reduce the living beings to "uniformity" is the same as making an assassination attempt on their consciousness or life. Terrestrial human beings can thus no longer be "saved" through dictatorship. They are no longer to be "herded together" but are to be "individualised". They are to become beings who think and act independently. How could they otherwise become "human beings in God's image". "God's image" can be neither a downtrodden "slave" who grovels for his "master", nor a brutal and all-oppressive or slave-whipping "master being". "God's image" can manifest itself perfectly only where it expresses a being that lives solely in order to "serve" its neighbour completely freely. Serving one's neighbour completely freely, which means serving all living beings around one, is the same as loving this neighbour. But one serves one's "neighbour" completely freely only when one demands absolutely nothing in return. Only when one does so exclusively because one feels that this way of manifesting is the absolutely happiest way and something one has only the absolutely greatest joy in manifesting, quite regardless of whether one receives gratitude or ingratitude as payment or in return. Being inspired by this desire or this perfect wish to serve one's neighbour is in fact the same as being filled with the "holy spirit". It is to be predestined to comply with the law of neighbourly love. It is to live in "fulfilment of the law".
