A look back at how the cycle causes the being's alternating experience of light and darkness, of life and death, of spirit and matter
1573. We have hereby drawn aside a little corner of the veil of the future, and seen something of the organic structure and its effects that are a vital contrast to the organic structure that led Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden to the regions of the killing principle, to the experience of "dying the death", that is to say life without consciousness of their own high cosmic identity with eternity, and without consciousness of the Godhead as the master of time and space. We have hereby gained a preliminary insight into the entire organic functioning that gives rise to the spiral cycle and transforms the sensory faculty of the living beings so that they experience this cycle alternately as light, as the "kingdom of heaven", as the very greatest peace, happiness and joy, and as darkness, as "hell", as the very greatest discord, unhappiness and depression. This organic structure thus makes the living being eat of the "tree of knowledge", so that, from its spiritual, liberated state in paradise or the superphysical worlds, it increasingly "involves" itself in physical matter in order ultimately to be completely mentally buried in this matter. This burial then in turn means that it can see neither the Godhead, the cosmos nor its own I as constituting an eternal life. Subsequently this organic nature causes the individual to "evolve" out of this matter. As it becomes satiated with physical knowledge and physical abilities, it emerges again from physical matter to spirit, to a ray-formed existence, liberated from the heaviness of physical matter. Indeed, it raises itself up completely to see itself survive both time and space, and experiences thereby the feeling of being "one with the Father", the Godhead or the Lord of Life.
