1587. In the uppermost light section of the symbol where the light and darkness of the spiral cycle are depicted, there are some round coloured figures, each with a triangle in the middle. These are intended to symbolise the living being and its capacity of consciousness or spiritual level in each of the kingdoms of the spiral cycle. In the first section on the left, which denotes the plant kingdom, the figure has a red ring, red being the colour that symbolises the energy of instinct. This expresses the fact that the energy of instinct is the highest capacity of consciousness in the plant kingdom. The next figure has been augmented by an orange ring, orange being the colour that symbolises the energy of gravity and the killing principle triggered by it. In the next kingdom the organism is enriched with a new ring that has been coloured yellow so as to symbolise feeling. With the evolution and ennobling of this faculty the individual becomes a master of his instinct and his manifestation of the killing principle, thus giving rise to neighbourly love. At the same time the faculty of intelligence, indicated by the green colour, has also developed and, in harmony with neighbourly love, controls the individual's exercise of its will in the next kingdom, the kingdom of wisdom. And with this harmonious control of all the energies of the consciousness or mental forces, the being achieves a one-hundred-per-cent contact with the creative structure of the universe itself. And, through this contact, intuition, a new area of consciousness symbolised by the blue colour, develops in the being. This faculty in turn forms the foundation for the experience of life in the divine world, which is itself the culminating zone of light and thus of life. Here the being leaves the outer world* in order to live for a certain period of time entirely in its own inner world created during its journey through the spiral cycle, a world that in Livets Bog is termed the kingdom of bliss. This is symbolised by the last ring in the figure furthest to the right, which is coloured indigo, the colour that symbolises memory.
