1605. As previously mentioned, "pregnancy" is by no means over at the physical birth of the offspring. Even though the offspring is separated from its mother's flesh and blood or physical body at this birth, it is not separated from the soul of its mother or the souls of normal parents. And this mental or psychic embryonic state, which normally continues until the being has grown up and "flown the nest", reveals its existence in the parents' urge to protect and care for their offspring. This mental connection between parents and offspring is manifested as "ties of kinship" and promotes "family feeling". These ties give rise to the parents' grief at losing their offspring, and the offspring's grief at losing its parents.
