1626. And since the marital troubles and moral infringements that occur are not a matter of merely a very small percentage of all terrestrial human beings, but constitute an overwhelming, continuously increasing majority – for no one can actually be assured of absolute happiness within this zone – one should not believe that the ecclesiastical, moral view of the Old Testament, which, without understanding, condemns this entire aspect of the modern human being's psyche as "sodomitical", "ungodly" or "sinful", will be able to change the situation or rectify mankind's marital or sexual position with its threats of punishment in Hell, of excommunication, of death at the stake or of "eternal damnation". What modern human being today satisfies its sexual desire solely in order to have children? Is one to believe that the masses or the majority of terrestrial mankind regard having intercourse without the intention of bringing about fertilisation as sinful? Does one not see, on the contrary, that thousands, indeed, millions of people aim to have intercourse without bringing about fertilisation and, indeed, even take measures to prevent the possibility of fertilisation inherent to intercourse? Are there not still hundreds of childless marriages, partly because people do not want children, and partly because they cannot have them? Does one not at the same time see hundreds of other marriages that belong to the so-called "one-child system"? Only very few terrestrial human beings make full use of their capacity to fertilise during marriage and have all the children that they possibly can. Millions of people thus try to avoid fertilisation at all costs without wanting to forego the satisfaction of sexual pleasure. The manufacture of contraceptives occurs on a large scale. Indeed, people do not even shrink from committing foeticide, even though they are baptised and confirmed in "the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". The majority of mankind thus demonstrates sexual behaviour that is quite immune to the influence of both ecclesiastical and judicial sexual morals. Neither the church, religion nor the penal code can therefore keep the sexual behaviour of these people in check any longer.
