But apart from this degeneration of the mating system inherited from the animal kingdom, and thereby the downfall of the so-called "perfect marriage", the degeneration has also an abundance of other symptoms, namely all the perverse, abnormal or sick sexual states that eventually lead to all forms of sadism and sex murder. Given all these sexual phenomena, it cannot be denied that here we are confronted with a sexual "dark age", in the same way as we find ourselves in a physical and intellectual dark age. The killing principle, with its massacres and mutilations, sorrows and misfortunes, need and misery, religious and political intolerance as well as the above-mentioned sexual degeneration, thus confirms or documents that terrestrial mankind is the darkest or most unhappy community of beings on Earth. The animals certainly persecute and murder one another, but this is merely out of a natural drive for self-preservation. The beasts of prey must have meat in order to live. But human beings murder and kill, not as a vital necessity but out of ambition, greed and intolerance. They have no absolutely vital reason for their persecution, robbery and plundering, their elbowing their way forward at the expense of others, their wars and their destruction of culture, their racial hatred and professional jealousy. Mankind owns the entire Earth, which is in fact so abundantly rich and filled with colossal life-promoting opportunities that a terrestrial mankind with even twice the number of individuals could live a carefree, paradisiacal life or be in a cultural epoch of fantastic dimensions compared to the cellar-existence or cesspool-existence through which it is at present groping its way as an invalid.
