1634. But the entire understanding of light and darkness lies in knowledge of the "spiral cycle" that is mentioned many times here in "Livets Bog". The maintenance of this cycle is thus promoted by the principle of the "highest fire". This fire is in turn the same as the principle of hunger and satiation, the culmination of whose manifestation is "sexuality". "Sexuality" is in turn the same as any kind of pleasurable feeling or sensual pleasure, which in turn is the same as any kind of feeling of satiation, any kind of well-being. That the human beings in daily life perceive only intercourse or the act of fertilisation itself as sexuality reveals merely their as-yet sleeping or cosmically dead state or great ignorance as regards their very I and its cosmic psyche.
The "highest fire" thus underlies absolutely all existing forms of hunger and satiation, and culminates as the desire or hunger for darkness and the satiation with darkness, and as the hunger for the highest light and the satiation with this light. Here the universe's multiplicity of forms of desire and satiation merge in these two desires and their satiation, just like the ordinary nutritional hunger and satiation, the desire for wealth, position and power as well as the desire to respect, honour, love and serve one's neighbour or all living things, and the satisfaction of these desires. Of this enormous principle of hunger and satiation, this ocean of desire and satisfaction, the terrestrial human being perceives, as previously mentioned, only the sexual desire and its satisfaction as "sexuality". And here it is a matter of course that the human being is thereby an unfinished being. Since it has to direct the creation of its entire fate in life with its will, and since the exercise of its will can result in absolute happiness only by being in contact with the laws of the world or "God's will" (universal logic), and it meets adversity if this does not happen, it is not so surprising that the terrestrial human being with its cosmic unconsciousness cannot direct its will in contact with the laws of life in the truly vast ocean of sexuality that lies outside the specific states of being of the male and female sexes. It cannot possibly direct its will on the basis of knowledge it does not possess.
