1654. That a lot of blood must flow in the world under these circumstances is a matter of course. But is it not equally a matter of course for the high-intellectual human being that this arrangement in the world structure could not possibly be dispensed with? How could the living being discover life or be alive at all if something through which its own life could be defined did not exist in the world structure? Can it be done in any other way than through the creation of its antithesis or contrast? The highest purpose of the world structure and thereby of the living being is thus in the first instance to create an antithesis or contrast to absolute life. But an antithesis or contrast to the real or eternal experience of life can, as will be remembered, be only an unreal or temporal experience. We already know from previous cosmic analyses in "Livets Bog" that the "I" and its "creative faculty" and the result it produces – the "created" – are eternal phenomena. And since they are inseparable and thereby form a unit that constitutes the "living being", this being thus exists eternally. But how is this eternal existence to become an experience for this being if this experience were not based on laws that could be broken, and if life did not deteriorate so much that it was possible for the being to understand eternity and infinity as its own very highest identity?
