How the individual's quest for the experience of its own eternal existence became its "drive for self-preservation"
1655. Here it is thus essential to remember that even though the living being is an eternal reality this means nothing if it could not turn its eternal existence into an experience. But in order to turn its eternal existence into an experience, this experience must be created or produced. But creation can occur only through desire and satisfaction of desire, or hunger and satiation. And we already know how the living being's entire structure is based upon hunger and satiation. Thus hunger and satiation are triggered by the eternal being's primordial desire, which is rooted in "X2" or in the superconsciousness, and spreads downwards through the individual's subconsciousness, which in turn consists of day-consciousness and night-consciousness.Since the primordial desire in the being determines that the living being has a desire to experience its eternal existence, this desire spreads from its superconsciousness downwards through the individual's subconsciousness and becomes in its day-consciousness a desire to manifest all the phenomena that are the antithesis of eternal life. But in order for such a creation to be really efficient, this primordial desire must be transformed into a desire, the fulfilment of which is a vital necessity. And thus the individual's quest for its own eternal existence becomes in the first instance its "drive for self-preservation".
