1657. This creation of the contrast to eternal life and its real laws was the goal of the "highest fire's" transformation of the being into a "half-sex being". This "half-sex state", that is to say the "male sex" and the "female sex", is thus a cosmic, organic regulation of the senses in each being that cuts the individual off from the spiritual or cosmic planes of existence and thereby from its real, liberated spiritual state. Being a culminating "half-sex being" is thus the same as being a being whose consciousness is reduced to a very latent stage. During the culmination of this state it is not possible for the being to sense cosmically. It is enveloped in and bound by physical matter to such an extent that it has not merely lost its knowledge of its own cosmic identity and immortality and believes that it constitutes merely a perishable combination of matter formed by the interplay of chance forces, but it has also, so to speak, lost its freedom of movement. The freedom of movement that it can attain on the physical plane is nothing in comparison to the freedom of movement that the being has access to on the spiritual plane. On the physical plane the being is thus permanently bound to the heavy physical body that, during the culmination of the "half-sex being", is to a marked extent a combination of stone and water, plus a small amount of air. Since stone and water are the heaviest forms of matter, an organism that consists to a marked extent of this matter will be among the heaviest in the universe. When a being's I, its superconsciousness and spiritual bodies incarnate in such a body, it has one of the simplest forms of freedom of movement a living being can have. This half-sex state is thus tied to a reduction of life in all areas. It is not so surprising that the "Bible's" cosmic narratives express the being's journey into this state as an "expulsion from Eden" or as to "surely die".
