Life in the light or in the highest world that Adam had experienced
1703. Adam was thus a being that had lived for such a long time in the light that observing the laws of light dominated his consciousness, indeed to such an extent that observing these laws had long since become a culminating automatic function. Having become a culminating automatic function in turn meant that it had long since – indeed, millions of years ago – stopped being a wakingly day-conscious function. The wakingly day-conscious combatting of darkness that occurs in the physical world of the spiral cycle does not exist in the higher worlds of this cycle. One does not belong to these worlds before one has trained and attained the ability to fulfil the law of neighbourly love, which is actually the very law of life. And when one has finally attained this ability and has become a resident of the highest worlds, one is no longer engaged in combatting darkness, in combatting animal habits or in combatting immorality and death-dealing energies. Life here is one great flowering of the development of artistic creation or production. This creation, which is actually a creation of caresses, is just as dominant a foundation for life here at the pinnacles as the struggle for one's daily bread or the so-called drive for self-preservation is dominant and supreme on the physical, animal plane of existence. In the regions of light there is absolutely no danger that one will starve or freeze, no danger that one will be tyrannised or oppressed by other beings, no danger that one will be the victim of the slander, envy or jealousy of others, and no danger of any kind of bodily or mental ill-health. Here everyone has everything they want. Everyone is filled to the brim with joy, and cannot be filled with any more. Any form of dissatisfaction, discontent or their consequences – indignation, anger, pessimism and depression – can as little exist here as tropical plants can take root in regions of snow and ice. Here we are in the radiant summer region of the cosmic cycle, where the eternal light of all mental warmth or neighbourly love, and the consequential culminating joy and zest for life, permeates and governs everything and everyone. Here life or joy in living is not marred by any rivalry for the opposite sex, or the deadly, mental winter cold that results from this rivalry. Here the beings' sympathetic faculties are promoted by an organic structure of such perfection that it pervades the being with love for everything and everyone regardless of sex. Thus this organic structure differs from the familiar terrestrial sexual structure that promotes the being's sympathetic faculties, not in favour of its neighbour, but only in favour of the being itself. And in order to satisfy this self-love or self-sympathy, the being desires or "loves" the opposite sex and feels antipathy, envy and hatred towards its own sex; thus, as we have already shown, the being contains within itself the seed or germ of the creation of the spiral cycle's zone of winter or darkness.
