1705. Since Adam, as will be remembered, was satiated with the sphere of light or paradise, this satiation had to give rise to the desire for the opposite, namely the physical world, the first epoch of which – with its deadly materialism – is the opposite of paradise, which is the true sphere of love. The being in the divine world has no access to this form of experience except through delving into its memories from a long lost period of experience that it had in the physical world before it reached the regions of light. The being then leaves the outer spiritual world in order to rest in its memories. And here it then relives – while completely dead to the outer world – the part of its sphere of memories that stems from the dark zone it experienced in the previous spiral. But since this re-experiencing of a state that was experienced millions of years earlier is the beginning of a satiation of the hunger that is now the only way to life for the being, this re-experiencing of the zone of darkness in the form of memories becomes an experience of bliss, a culminating intoxication of happiness. It is this hunger that turns all physical memories into gold copies or the experience of these memories into bliss. And it is this sphere of happiness, promoted by the intoxication of bliss, that is symbolised or expressed by the biblical paradise.
