Why the belief in the "virgin birth" of Jesus and his identity as a "godhead" or "son of God" entered into the world
1722. Since this superterrestrial way of being, which belonged to a kingdom that was not of this world, could not avoid becoming or being a fact, the presence of this loving or this divine mentality in a human being of flesh and blood had of course to be a mystery to his uninformed contemporaries. In one way or another the Godhead had to be directly involved in this supposed wonder.A carpenter, a poor tradesman, ill-read and uneducated, brought up in merely a remote, secluded small town far from the big cities, suddenly appeared before the public with a mentality that emanated a wisdom beyond all understanding, impressed the tolerant scholars of the time and generated hatred and persecution in intolerant scribes and ecclesiastical authorities. And since this man who spoke with great wisdom and intellectual authority stated very forcibly that God was his father, it is no wonder that kindly disposed and tolerant friends and authorities later saw in this a solution to the mystery of the wisdom of this unlettered, poor craftsman from the country, from the mountains.God simply had to be his father.Mary had to have been fertilised by the Godhead himself in a supernatural way.God's spirit, that is to say, God's consciousness had to have overshadowed her.It was thus unthinkable that Jesus, this great, elevated moral genius, could be the son of Joseph.Indeed, none other than the Godhead himself could be the direct father of Jesus. And people were satisfied with this supposed solution to the mystery. They certainly could not grasp that this solution could be wrong or mistaken. And even today millions of the Christian religion's most faithful believers find this solution irrefutable. And thus this view was based in the first instance on the recognition that the world redeemer was a supernatural being whose way of being was a matter of course for gods but unattainable for human beings. His way of being did not therefore become the model, the ideal to be imitated or the example for human behaviour that is necessary for the liberation of the human being from the animal, selfish way of being that promotes war, sorrow, suffering and death. So people inevitably had to rush towards the Armageddon, the Doomsday confrontation that has just passed over the world, and whose reverberations still make martyrs of mankind all over the Earth and cause millions of people to live in degradation, destitution, fear and unrest – an existence that is the complete opposite of lasting peace.
