1729. When we see the dominion of misfortune and suffering within the sphere of mankind, rejecting any more advanced form of investigation of the human psyche cannot be regarded as flattering.
By a more advanced form of investigation one should here understand an investigation of the part of the human psyche that lies beyond all ordinary and thousands-of-years-old notions about the human being's morality, sexuality or sympathetic faculty or relationship to his or her neighbour.
The inevitability of a more advanced investigation is established as fact in that the desired more advanced state of culture that can be the foundation for real peace and harmony between beings can in itself be solely a question of their relationship to their neighbour.
And the relationship to this neighbour can in turn be a product of only the individual's sympathetic faculty and its resultant mental or psychic coldness or warmth.
Collective world peace and true harmony within the zone of mankind is thus just as much a question of mental temperature as the vigour and lushness of a flowering plant are a question of the creation of the particular temperature necessary to ensure the plant's growth.
Since the stuntedness and failure of all mankind in the form of war, misfortune and suffering are thus due solely to mental coldness, the liberation or redemption of mankind is solely a question of the creation of more mental warmth.
The problem is thus to create the mental temperature that can take mankind forwards to a culmination of vigour, lushness and neighbourly love, so that it can be free of all the shackles of stagnation and restraint, and can be free of the mental coldness that, in the form of the thirst for power, profit-seeking and unseemly ambition, stunts it today.
