1742. Thus we see that this enormous, over-proportioned sexual need in mankind creates great conflicts and confusion in the terrestrial human psyche, and thereby corresponding confusion in its view of sexual morality.
At the same time as one learns that the highest ideal or the highest fulfilment of the law of life is "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself", and preaches it far and wide from thousands of authorised and unauthorised pulpits the world over, one feels an exaggerated antipathy or desire to persecute and malign new tendencies and forces in the human mentality that are precisely a result of an evolution in the direction of a progressive expansion of the human faculties for sympathy.
That this antipathy towards an increased or more elevated development of sympathy between beings, independent of the usual two sexes, is present to a great extent in the very robust and primitive masculine and feminine beings is understandable.
How could such beings – in whom the animal sympathetic ability promoted by the male and female state is still almost in its purest form, and whose sympathetic ability has therefore not reached beyond the stage of culminating self-worship – understand or grasp such a form of sympathy in any other way than as something destructive and damaging to life?
And, from their stage or step and in relation to their own organic structure, they are of course right.
It destroys the brutal "masculine" and "feminine" principle that creates hatred and rivalry about the right to own the opposite sex, a struggle that is in turn the trunk on which all other struggles for power or the right of ownership are branches.
This sexual struggle engendered by the one-poled state or antipathy towards beings of one's own sex is the root of all evil in the world.
