1746. As we see, the great miserable state of mental and physical suffering that to a great extent holds mankind in its grip is the result of an "animal" nature still flourishing in the terrestrial human being. Here it is worth noting that the individuals in whom the "animal" nature thrives and flourishes the most are all, each and every one of them, so to speak, what one calls a "man" or a "woman" in their pure form or, in other words, "men" in whom the masculine pole is dominant and "women" in whom the feminine pole is likewise dominant. These "men" thus constitute the most strongly marked specifically "male beings", and these "women" constitute the most specifically "female beings" that exist within terrestrial mankind. We therefore also see that these beings, because of their "animal" insatiability, have a raging tendency towards jealousy and envy. Among terrestrial human beings they are the beings that to the greatest extent feel that they own their spouse. And woe betide anyone who attempts to meddle with their property, indeed, even with a little smile or a glance! He will soon feel that these beings keep a jealous and hateful eye on all fellow beings of their own sex to ensure that they do not get any opportunity whatsoever to show beings of the opposite sex rival friendliness or kindness. In no layer of consciousness or step in the terrestrial human mentality or psyche whatsoever is there so much explosive mental substance or blazing, uncontrolled energy of gravity than in precisely these "men" and "women" who are closest to the pure form of the "male" or "female state". It is individuals from this layer of consciousness that, because of their ability to ruthlessly conquer other beings and trample them down, and their ability to make themselves masters and dictators of everything and everyone, are sometimes admired and praised in films, novels and plays as heroes and called "real men". And this term is actually more apt than most people think it is, since such a being fully represents the stage of the "real male being". It is a matter of course that the corresponding "real woman" must be a being that to the very greatest extent can admire the "real man's" trampling on other people and enslaving them, and can regard these as heroic acts, indeed, simply cannot admire this being unless it has acquired the halo of heroism that is based on the degradation and oppression of other people. But in order for it to be able to admire such a psyche, it must be just as much a specifically "female being" as her hero is a specifically "male being". She, like him, must detest her own sex. She must have the same desire for power and the same possessive urge as him, for otherwise she would be incapable of admiring his manifestations as "heroic acts". One does not admire in others what one is satiated to a point of nausea with. The "real woman" can thus be only a woman who fully admires the above-mentioned "real man".
