1761. Here one will perhaps raise the objection that "people" are not "animals". They have intellectuality and reason and can be made to understand the situations. But here the answer must inevitably be that as long as people are beings that kill, murder, plunder and take revenge to an extent compared with which the animals' abilities and state in this direction are but microscopic, it will be easier to create peace and quiet in a cageful of animals than in a cageful of terrestrial human beings. Has any material force in the world actually been able to stop the hateful, murdering, plundering, terrorising and robbing nature of people with regard to their neighbour? Has the atom bomb, this culmination of all infernal machines, been able to stop the fear of war, the build-up of arms and the manufacture of weapons in the world? No, we will all have to look in another direction if we want to take part in creating peace on Earth. The world does not need cages and fences, brutal oppression and exploitation of the weak, or palaces and undisciplined freedom for the strong or best armed states to live at the expense of others according to a ruthless, selfish and sometimes psychopathic whim.
