1771. Terrestrial human beings would continue to ignore this if the eternal principle of cycles in the form of the "highest fire" did not promote the transformation of the living beings' organs and thereby their very experience of life. No state is absolutely permanent; no created phenomenon can last forever. Everything is subject to transformation, from the hardest stones or minerals to the almost imperceptible nuances of the most delicate, ray-formed, mental matter. We see on the ladder of evolution how all living beings before us have gone through an extraordinarily great process of transformation. Neither the plants nor animals of the past are of exactly the same types or have the same appearance as those of the present. The many different evolutionary epochs, from the very first feeble forms of life that began to emerge here on Earth right up to our own present-day existence show us what enormous changes have occurred here in matter as well as in the forms of bodies or organisms. Since organisms are the instrument for sensing or experiencing life, this experience of life must depend on the nature of the structure of this sensory instrument and on how great a capacity it represents as the instrument for this experience.
