1776. The terrestrial living being is thus a being in whose innermost self there originally existed a burning desire for materialism and imperfection or for everything that is the opposite of the form of happiness, peace and joy that, here in the darkness, has now long since begun to become an object of longing for the advanced terrestrial human beings who are satiated with the darkness. We have seen how the longing for the darkness is symbolised and described in the Bible's account of Adam and Eve, who lived originally in the light, that is in the light region of a previous spiral cycle, but could find pleasure only in eating the fruits of the "tree of knowledge". They were thus satiated with the fruits of the "tree of life". Otherwise the fruits of the "tree of knowledge" could not have become a pleasure for Adam and Eve. Having eaten or satisfied this desire, the living being makes its way out of the sphere of the region of light, through its autumn and into its zone of winter or the zone in which we find the materialistic, killing and murdering terrestrial animal and human being. In this zone – which was once its ideal zone with its "Valhalla" and vengeful and murderous gods, its murderous and belligerent morality, and which now culminates as the modern "war of everyone against everyone else" or the Armageddon that at the moment makes martyrs of terrestrial human beings and envelops the atmosphere of the Earth in death rattle, blood and tears – there arises in the innermost selves of the beings the satiation with darkness, the feeling of having "slept well" that makes it a pleasure to wake up in the "morning", the revulsion towards manifesting the killing principle, the heartfelt and chronic hunger for harmony and peace, which is actually the same as the hunger for love.
