The principle of hunger and satiation is the foundation of the cycles and causes everything to be subject to change
1777. This hunger is thus something that arises internally in the individual's consciousness as a consequence of its experience of being abundantly satiated with the principle of darkness or the winter or night zone of the spiral cycle. But how can such satiation actually arise? Here one will probably answer that it arises when, for example, one's stomach is full of food, one cannot eat any more until this food has been digested, and this is of course true; the same principle is in a way present here, but this does not completely answer the question.Satiation is a more comprehensive principle than merely the principle of feeding. It is true that the hunger for nutrition can be satisfied by eating food, which means by filling one's stomach, but if the individual goes on eating the same dish every time it is hungry, it will ultimately become sick and tired of this dish, and even feel simply disgusted with it or loathe it.That it was originally its favourite dish does not change the principle; this satiation and disgust will inevitably set in.And with this disgust for the above-mentioned dish there arises an unshakable wish or desire for a change of diet or another dish. And so the same story can begin again from the beginning until not merely the acute satiation but also the chronic satiation with, and disgust for, the same dish has set in and the longing for new dishes once again begins to dominate.A principle is thus revealed here, a principle that causes another form of satiation than the acute or passing satiation, namely lasting or chronic satiation. This chronic satiation expresses a principle that not only determines that the individual cannot stick to the same dish or form of nutrition for ever; it also determines that the individual in no other circumstance in daily life can remain in the same sphere or continue with the same way of experiencing life.Everything must gradually become outdated; everything must gradually become antiquated and be left behind in favour of new forms of experience and spheres of thought. The transformation of every form of life, the transformation of every bodily structure, the beings' appearance in new species or races, the beings' transformation from animal to human being or, in overall terms, the process of transformation that we call evolution is thus promoted exclusively by this principle of hunger and satiation, which lies behind everything.
