1781. Here on the physical plane, where the ordinary terrestrial human being lives in the culminating zone of darkness itself or where the dark contrast dominates over the light contrast, resulting in the Day of Judgment, Armageddon, the hell of "everyone being at war with everyone else", death in gas chambers, executions, sadism, torture, persecution, physical and mental illnesses and so on, the beings recognise the two principles and poles only in a structure or mutual constellation that makes the living beings "male" and "female". The completely "male being" and the completely "female being" thus represent precisely the mutual constellation of these poles that forms the basis of the spiral cycle's, and thereby life's, dark state, Armageddon or hell. Since this zone is the one in which the individual is cosmically almost unconscious (it can perceive only temporal and spatial things or phenomena that can be weighed and measured), it is to be regarded as a cosmically dead being. It represents the death or cosmic unconsciousness that was to be the consequence of "the eating of the tree of knowledge". The terrestrial human being in its materialistic state of disbelief or denial of spirit thus represents the cycle's winter cold, the cycle's contrast to, or opposite of, love. Its sympathetic faculties span only the sphere of its drive for reproduction and are thereby a link in its drive for self-preservation. At its peak this form of sympathy can dispose the individual to serve only itself and likewise to let itself be served or live at the expense of others. It becomes a being that resists or sabotages the keynote of the universe or life itself. Where such a being is to maintain life in the form that brings this being happiness, it can be done only at the expense of other living beings. In the worst case it must kill in order to live. Indeed, its food is even the organisms, the flesh and blood, of other living beings. There could be no greater sabotage of life and thereby of the beings' peace and happiness.
