1787. The human being in "God's image" is not a being that can juggle with only a mammalian organism. It is not a being that is organically built to be able to love only the opposite sex and thereby be a born rival to beings of its own sex. It is not a being that is subject to the law that determines that one has to kill in order to live. "God's image" cannot be a being that would rather receive than give, that would rather let itself be served than serve. "God's image" cannot be a being that is a slave of jealousy, envy, greed, lust for power or a feeling of ownership of beings and things. "God's image" must be the culmination of life's greatest characteristic: the ability to devote oneself one hundred per cent to the happiness and welfare of others. If the consciousness or psyche of the universe's eternal highest "Something" or "I" were not like this, how then, one might ask, could the keynote of the universe be culminating love? Everything in Nature is built up exclusively in order to serve and not to be served. Here we must of course make an exception for that service in the form of protection that every being must have at birth and while growing up until it has reached the age of discretion. But all mature phenomena are intended to be only a gift to life from life, thereby establishing the fact that the keynote of the universe is "universal love". When terrestrial mankind encompasses within its physical and mental sphere of life so many manifestations that deviate from love, it is thereby established as fact that we are here standing in front of something that is unfinished.
