Martinus: Livets Bog, vol. 5, sect. 1796

1796. The general rule here in our terrestrial zone of evolution is that the living beings are one-poled and appear as "male beings" and "female beings". In "Livets Bog" we have long since dwelled on how this sexual state promotes jealousy and a feeling of ownership. We have seen how this sexual state creates antipathy towards beings of one's own sex because of their inevitable rivalry for beings of the opposite sex. We have also understood how their mental state is the source of all the remaining so-called evil in the world and the ensuing unhappy fate for the beings that are culminating in the Armageddon that is currently raging across the Earth as "the war of everyone against everyone else". This one-poled state also creates the callousness towards other beings that is the foundation of a way of life whose existence can be maintained only by the principle of killing. The beings must thus kill in order to live. The whole of existence or the way of life produced by the one-poled sexual structure thus provokes everywhere an antipathy or mental coldness towards beings and surroundings that do not contribute to promoting the sexual satisfaction of its originator and the reproduction and protection of its species, quite apart from its murderous attitude to the species of beings whose organisms it demands as food for its existence. One understands that there is no room here for any form of neighbourly love whatsoever. Here maintaining life, because of this essential "persecution of all beings by all others", is so tremendously difficult that there can be absolutely no room for anything other than thoughts about protecting their way of life, a way of life that is more or less persecuted by all other beings. To this must be added then their own persecution of other beings, partly in order to conquer their bodies for food and partly in order to protect their ownership of beings of the opposite sex, which in reality is of course only a protection of their access to sexual satisfaction and the reproduction of their species and thus its survival. Thus we are here confronted with the cold season and winter coldness of the cycle of the state of consciousness, mentality or experience of life itself.
